In the photo to the left, actor, activist, and musician Jaden Smith is taking a photo with his father, Will Smith who is also an actor, producer, and musician known for his very famous roles in American films and TV shows. In the photo the father and son are holding up Jaden's creation of "JUST WATER", which is spring water that comes in cartons that are recyclable, reusable and made from plant based paper. This family is notoriously famous and quite wealthy and influential since they have a very large following, not just from the youth but from the generation of Will Smith as well. Jaden smith also has very wealthy and famous peers around him spreading similar messages. Jaden founded this company to be more eco-friendly for the planet and used his platform and status to do it. In the photo to the right, he is giving a speech at the Environmental Media Association (EMA) promoting his product. Since the world has become more aware of the conditions of the planet, (pollution, climate change etc) the world has become more eco-friendly. People with the platform, following, and resources (money) like the Smith family are able to promote change on a very large scale. And since America is a democracy, we have control over who we choose to elect and policies we want to have by voting. This is a subtle way for influencers and celebrities such as the Smith family to not necessarily have governmental control, but control the way people view policy and therefore create legal change. In the The Power Elite by C. Wright Mills, he writes about how the power elite came to be in America plus the 3 major keys that make them: political, economic, and military circles that overlap in cliques that share decisions that result in very large consequences. (Mills 1956:18). In today's day and age, celebrities have become large advocates for world change. This is just one example of one family with the economic aspect of the power elite that still has a large influence on the state of the country.
